Classic Texas Luxury – The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa
“There’s a vastness here and I believe that the people who are born here breathe that vastness into their soul. They dream big dreams and think big thoughts, because there is nothing to hem them in.” ― Conrad Hilton
There’s no place like Texas. And Houston is one of those special American cities where unbridled optimism and rugged individualism have created vast wealth and opportunity, and both guests and residents of Houston have long satisfied their luxury desires and tastes by visiting The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa.
I had the fortune of visiting The Houstonian recently, and it’s clear why this classic property has endured, attracting a new generation of luxury aficionados. The property is cast in rich colors and textures, imbuing it with a sense of classic style and warmth.

Located a few miles to the west of downtown, Houston (Click Here to view on Google Maps), The Houstonian is positioned on 18 acres of woodlands, nearby the famous Memorial Park Golf Course. The location is idyllic and peaceful, providing a respite from the bustling downtown – yet close enough to the downtown if you seek to sample the bustle.
One of the many defining features of The Houstonian is its sprawling footprint, complete with an expansive luxury Spa, impressive Health Club facility, large open verdant spaces, and of course a signature pool.
I enjoyed a roomy Concierge Level suite, which features a separate Concierge Lounge for guests to relax and unwind. The suite was plush with wood paneling, luxurious appointments, and classic stone. The Concierge Lounge is impressive, offering a quiet area to lounge, read, work, or enjoy a cocktail.

The Houstonian offers a variety of both luxury and casual Dining Options, including its signature offering Olivette, The Manor House, Arbor Grill, Center Court Cafe, and The Bar.
Named the “Best Power Breakfast Spot” by the Houston Business Journal, Olivette features elevated American fare in the heart of the property. Click Here to view the Dinner Menu. Here is an image of Olivette, courtesy of The Houstonian:
The Manor House is another of the property’s enduring characteristics. Constructed by renowned architect John Staub in 1955, the historic Manor House was for years a private residence, including for the former President George Bush and the First Lady Barbara Bush. The Houstonian recently opened it as a stand-alone restaurant on property, serving lunch and a menu of Gulf Coast and Creole-inspired cuisine. Click Here to view the Lunch Menu.

The Houstonian Club
I love an impressive fitness facility at luxury hotels, and The Houstonian’s Club is quite impressive. The Club offers memberships to local residents, in addition to providing the hotel’s guests with a top flight facility. First, it’s huge, over 175,000 thousand square feet of rooms, courts, and space. Second, there are innumerable features and programming, for all ages, preferences, and skill levels.
The Trellis Spa
Adjacent to The Club is the equally impressive 17,000 square foot Trellis Spa, featuring 20 treatment rooms, including eleven rooms for body treatments. The spa is Mediterranean in design, and a lush courtyard wraps around its exterior, creating a lovely environment while experiencing a treatment. The Spa features luxurious locker rooms (with Jacuzzi and steam room), an indoor float pool, and cozy upstairs lounge with a fireplace. There is also one couples treatment room, which includes a couples shower and tub. Click Here for a full list and description of the Spa Services.
We are a nation rich in tradition and diverse cultures. There is something quite special in visiting places steeped in history, yet teeming with energy and optimism. The City of Houston is such a place. Its history of big ideas and even bigger personalities is experiencing a renaissance of youth, industry, culinary experimentation, and inventive architecture.
The Houstonian’s classic luxury is a delightful way to experience Houston’s enduring relevance – by either sampling the downtown’s numerous offerings and enjoying a peaceful day at the property; or by enjoying a treatment at the Trellis Spa, pulling up a seat at The Bar, and dining at Olivette. Either way, you’ll know what it means to live as a Houstonian.

Thanks so very much to everyone at The Houstonian, especially to Lindsey for making this visit possible, and for the use of some of your high resolution images! This was a special visit, and I look forward to returning during football season!
Please take note that the hotel welcomed me as a special media guest, but that my opinions are, as always, entirely my own.
